A 25-year-old man has been arrested on attempted murder and rape charges stemming from an assault on a woman at his apartment, a police spokesman said Friday.
Sgt. Tom Warnack said Michael S. Arthur had been arrested at his apartment in the 600 block of West 18th Street after Thursday night’s alleged incident.
Warnack said Arthur met the unidentified woman, her boyfriend and another woman at a Costa Mesa bar. The four then went to Arthur’s home, he said.
After the woman’s boyfriend took the other woman home, leaving Arthur and the victim alone, Arthur allegedly tried to strangle and rape her, Warnack said.
Arthur was booked into the Costa Mesa Jail and is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail. The woman, Warnack said, was not seriously injured and did not require hospitalization.
