Criminal charges were dismissed against a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy who was accused along with another officer of beating two Covina men they had arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. Deputy Dist. Atty. Lawrence E. Mason said that Deputy David K. Moore, 27, has agreed to testify against Deputy Edwin Cruger, 31, when the case comes to trial later this month. Cruger is charged with two counts of assault under color of authority, one count of false imprisonment and filing a false police report. Mason said he faces five years for allegedly taking Terry Ressler and Daniel David Scott to a parking lot on Feb. 17, 1985, and beating them with a flashlight. Moore, the prosecutor said, was “charged as an aider and abettor.”
