A man with a handgun near the Laguna Hills Mall was shot and wounded after he allegedly pointed his weapon at a California Highway Patrol officer, it was reported. The officer noticed the man, an unidentified Latino in his mid-20s, waving the gun near a restaurant parking lot, San Clemente Police Officer Ken Daily said. After a second CHP officer arrived, they ordered the man, in English and Spanish, to drop the weapon, Daily said. Instead, the man pointed the gun at one of the officers, who fired twice, he added. The man was taken to Mission Community Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.
