Boston Nurses Return After 24-Hour Walkout

BOSTON — Nurses returned to their jobs at a city hospital Saturday after striking for 24 hours in defiance of a state back-to-work order.
The 800 nurses, members of Local 285 of the Service Employees International Union, had struck Boston City Hospital and two smaller facilities in Mattapan and Long Island. The nurses are demanding higher pay and protesting overtime and non-medical duties such as answering telephones.
