Details of the settlement, which grew out of a 1977 trade secret and antitrust suit, were not disclosed. But Data General President Edson D. de Castro said the settlement will result in a pretax charge of $52.5 million and an after-tax charge of $29.4 million in the current quarter, ending Sept. 27.
