LONDONDERRY, Northern Ireland — A leader of Sinn Fein, the legal political wing of the outlawed Irish Republican Army, has been arrested for non-payment of a fine imposed on him in April for assaulting a police officer.
Police said Martin McGuiness was ordered to pay the $120 fine or face two weeks’ imprisonment.
A spokesman for the Royal Ulster Constabulary said Tuesday, “He chose not to pay and is now serving the 14 days.”
