Nakasone’s Term Extended

TOKYO — Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone, strengthened by a dramatic election victory, today won an unprecedented one-year extension of his term as president of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party, which assures him of another year as prime minister.
Nakasone, 68, said he will “work for the country, the people and the party” and try to accomplish election pledges, including administrative and financial reforms to reduce deficit spending.
