The Chicago Sun-Times reported that the Chicago Cubs are planning to either trade third baseman Ron Cey or release him so he can make his own deal.
The Cubs refused to comment, while Cey, 38, said: “I can understand your desire to have a younger player on the field.”
The former Dodger, who is in his fourth season with the Cubs, has a year remaining on his guaranteed $1-million contract.
