Danzig Connection took the lead immediately and stayed in front throughout to beat Broad Brush by three-quarters of a length in the $300,000 Pegasus Grade II Handicap at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J. Ogygian, the 2-5 favorite who had won his previous four races, finished third, 3 lengths back, in the 1 1/8-mile race.
Danzig Connection, whose winning time was 1:49 flat, was ridden by Patrick Day and paid $12.60 to win.
