Keith Coury, nephew of Rams quarterback coach Dick Coury, led Notre Dame High School of Riverside to a 40-7 victory over Lutheran Saturday in both football teams’ season openers in Orange.
Coury, a 6-foot 180-pound senior back, ran for a 47-yard touchdown and scored on punt returns of 82 and 73 yards in the first half as the Titans took a 27-0 lead. He was a first-team, All-Sunkist League selection last season as a defensive back.
The Lancers did not score until the final 13 seconds when defensive end Chris Brown dropped Titan quarterback Greg Torres for a four-yard loss. Torres fumbled and Brown recovered and ran 45 yards for the touchdown.
