This spring, the British Broadcasting Corp. will air a series of children’s stories featuring the Bethune Ballet Theatredanse of Los Angeles and the Auckland City Ballet of New Zealand.
The two companies will perform in 15 half-hour shows, featuring dance interpretations of classic fairy tales and new works from their repertoires. The BBC will start production of the first seven shows this January in Auckland, moving to Los Angeles to finish the series later in the year.
Stefanie Powers, actress and a member of the Bethune Ballet Theatredanse’s advisory committee, will donate her time to the series as host and narrator. Series producers Zina Bethune, the artistic director of the Bethune Ballet Theatredanse, and Janette Hefferman, the director of the Auckland City Ballet, are currently negotiating for an American distributor for the series.
