College Roundup : UCI Is 5th in Water Polo Tournament

UC Irvine split its two matches Sunday to finish fifth in the 20th Irvine Water Polo Tournament at Heritage Park. The Anteaters lost to Cal State Long Beach, 6-5, and defeated Pepperdine, 11-9.
Mike Halphide led Irvine (4-3) with six goals in the two games and Julian Harvey added five.
Stanford, ranked No. 1 nationally, won the seven-team round-robin tournament with a 6-0 record. USC (4-2) was second, California (4-2) third, UCLA (5-2) fourth, Pepperdine (3-3) sixth and Cal State Long Beach (4-3) seventh.
In Whittier Tournament action:
UC Santa Barbara 19, UC Riverside 10, Chapman 3, Chapman 2--The Panthers (1-3) lost twice despite four goals by John Bristol, who scored 19 goals in four tournament games.
In men’s nonconference soccer action:
Chapman 2, UC Irvine 1--Freshman Fabrizio Soto’s header off Doug Neely’s free kick broke a 1-1 tie 71 minutes into the game. Rick Snyder’s fourth goal of the season had given Chapman (4-2-1) a 1-0 lead in the first half. Darren Bedolla tied the score for the Anteaters (2-4) 13 minutes into the second half.
