SportsScope : Lion Spiker Named Player of the Week

Andrea Fort of Loyola Marymount University was named West Coast Athletic Conference volleyball player of the week. The Lions swept a three-match road trip in Northern California last week, including opening conference matches against Santa Clara and San Francisco, to run their overall record to 10-3. Fort, the senior setter, had 41 assists and six kills in the four-game match against Santa Clara and 50 assists and six kills in four games against USF.
Palos Verdes remains top-ranked in both boys and girls cross-country, Miraleste is still the No. 1 girls tennis team, and Mira Costa, Torrance and Chadwick are the top-ranked girls volleyball teams in this week’s CIF coaches polls.
The Palos Verdes teams are tops in 4-A cross-country. In tennis, Miraleste is atop the 4-A poll, followed by Palos Verdes in second, Rolling Hills sixth and South Torrance 10th. Chadwick is rated fifth in 1-A. The girls volleyball scene is dominated by South Bay teams, with Mira Costa No. 1 in 5-A, Torrance No. 1 in 4-A and Chadwick the top team in Small Schools. Bishop Montgomery is rated ninth in 5-A.
