THE DISTRICT: Includes Van Nuys and parts of North Hollywood, Reseda, Encino and Northridge. Democratic voters outnumber Republicans by 54.5% to 36.2%. Primarily middle class, much of it residential. General Motors in Van Nuys is the largest employer.
THE SURVEY: Questionnaires were mailed to legislative and congressional candidates in September. Answers will be published periodically until the Nov. 4 election.
