Women on a Pedestal

Jack Smith (“Off the Pedestal,” Aug. 24) talks of his favorite statues in Los Angeles. Then he unearths the mystery of a missing statue, that of Max Whittier, oilman. It seems that Los Angeles, like many cities in the land, is missing more than one statue of an oil tycoon. In this country of government by the men and for the men, we are missing many statues. What we are missing is statues of women.
