Maranatha 12, Village Christian 0--Quarterback John Kitterman threw for one touchdown and ran for another as Maranatha remained undefeated in Alpha League play with the shutout at San Marino High.
Kitterman, who completed 6 of 10 passes for 129 yards with no interceptions, gave Maranatha (4-1, 2-0) all the points it would need with a 60-yard scoring strike to John Inouye late in the first half.
Kitterman sealed the victory with three minutes left in the game on a two-yard quarterback sneak, which capped a 12-play, 58-yard drive.
Although Village Christian (1-4, 0-2) gained 183 yards total offense, the Crusaders repeatedly wasted scoring opportunities.
After marching to Maranatha’s 13-yard line on the game’s opening drive, Village Christian lost the ball when running back Tyler Victor fumbled at the two-yard line after catching a pass from quarterback Christopher Johnson. Maranatha’s Tom Martinez recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchback.
Village Christian had another opportunity to score late in the first half when Scott Phillips recovered a fumble by Inouye at Maranatha’s 42. But Inouye atoned for his error two plays later by intercepting Johnson at the 16-yard line on the last play of the half.
M--Inouye 60 pass from Kitterman (kick failed)
