A mysterious green mildew growing in the cupboards, closets and drawers of his Stockton home was reported to be preventing Russell Xepoleas, 49, a heart transplant recipient, from sleeping in his own room since recovering from the surgery. Xepoleas, recently released from Stanford University Medical Center, says goodby to his wife, Amelia, each night and leaves to stay with his mother-in-law. Xepoleas’ doctor said that breathing in bits of the fungus could result in a life-threatening infection for him. The builder of the two-year-old house, Paul Chapman, said if anyone can tell him what to do to stem the mildew he will do it. “I’m not in the habit of turning my back on my customers,” said Chapman, builder of several other homes nearby that have also developed the mildew.
