The Nation : Reagan Signs Wiretap Bill

President Reagan signed a bill modernizing the federal wiretap law to protect the privacy of high-tech communications. The bill outlaws eavesdropping on electronic mail, video conference calls, conversations on cellular car phones and computer-to-computer transmissions. Currently, the wiretap law protects only against interception of voice transmissions heard by the ear.
