A political action committee announced a $300,000 TV advertising blitz to elevate “Star Wars” from a space-based defense system to a conservative-based political issue in seven key states two weeks before Election Day. The American Conservative Trust mounted a campaign that will begin airing Friday against five Democratic candidates in California, Colorado and Texas who are openly opposed to President Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative, including Sen. Alan Cranston (D-Calif.). Carl Russell Channell, president of the conservative fund-raising group, said a series of ads will also be broadcast in North Carolina, Nevada, Florida and Alabama.
