Irwindale : Petition on Waste Plant

Pacific Waste Management Corp. has filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court challenging the state Energy Commission’s decision requiring the company to obtain waste-supply contracts in advance of construction of its proposed waste-to-energy plant in Irwindale.
The petition says that the Energy Commission decision is contrary to the rules of the state Waste Management Board, which requires only that waste-supply contracts be obtained 120 days before the plant goes into operation.
Pacific Waste is seeking a permit to build a plant to burn up to 2,225 tons of trash a day to create electrical energy.
The Energy Commission in September gave Pacific Waste until Dec. 1 to line up 75% of the trash the plant would burn or risk termination of its application for a construction permit.
