BAKERSFIELD — The Phoenix Suns routed the Clippers, 119-91, in an exhibition game Sunday night before 2,136 fans at the Bakersfield Civic Auditorium. The Clippers shot just 37.1% (33 of 89) and had 33 turnovers.
The Clippers failed to win a game in the exhibition season, going 0-6. They open the regular season Friday night at Sacramento.
“If we play the way we played tonight, we’re not going to win a game,” Clipper Coach Don Chaney said. “This game tonight was proof that we need better players.”
Larry Nance led the Suns with 19 points.
Forward Michael Cage came off the bench to score a game-high 20 points for the Clippers. Guard Larry Drew, who made just 4 of 15 shots, scored 13 points, and center Benoit Benjamin had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Free-agent center Ozell Jones, who signed Friday, scored two points.
