WASHINGTON — China has agreed to buy $550 million in sophisticated U.S. radar and electronics systems for Chinese-built F-8 fighter jets, the Pentagon said today, in another sign of warming scientific and military ties between Peking and Washington.
Officials said the Air Force will advertise for bids from U.S. electronic firms to provide the equipment. Westinghouse Electric Corp. and Hughes Aircraft Co. are expected to be among those seeking the contract.
