CARSON CITY — Democratic Rep. Harry Reid captured the Senate seat of retiring Republican Paul Laxalt, defeating Jim Santini, former Democratic congressman who defected to the GOP.
Gov. Richard H. Bryan, a popular Democrat, won easy reelection to a second, four-year term over outgoing state Treasurer Patty Cafferata. With 91% of the vote counted, Bryan was overwhelming his GOP challenger, 73% to 25%.
