San Diego Section Tennis : Mount Carmel Takes First-Round Win Over Mira Mesa

SAN DIEGO — Mira Mesa defeated Mount Carmel twice during the season, but Mount Carmel won Wednesday, 5-1, in first-round CIF San Diego Section 3-A tennis playoffs.
Christine Rilovick, Lynda Nario and Allison Bear all had two-set victories for Mount Carmel. Abby Denosto and Becky Rivera defeated Mira Mesa’s Jen McElliott and Kristin Block in doubles, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5. Mira Mesa’s Amy Pardue and Kim Schmnidt lost to Mandy Smith and Ann Henley, 0-6, 6-2, 2-6. Quarterfinals begin today.
In other 3-A matches:
Patrick Henry 7, Hilltop 0--Sue Kawke, Pam Penney, Cotney Jones and Karen Rens all won in singles. Patrick Henry, seeded eighth, will play top-seeded Bonita Vista in the quarterfinals today.
La Jolla Country Day School 6, Mar Vista 1--Robin Chatman beat Mar Vista’s Yasmine Geissler at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-1. Nadine Hyde and Alet Oury, at Nos. 2 and 3, had easy two-set victories, and Tory and Kerry Haidinger defeated Moni Sevilla and Lan Ho at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-0. Emily Maxon and Dorie Silverman beat Mar Vista’s Cindy Davis and Nga Danh, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles.
In 2-A action:
San Pasqual 7, Mission Bay 0--San Pasqual’s top four players--Nicole Main, Joey Dooley, Ali Miller and Dawn Evans--and all three doubles teams needed only two sets for wins. San Pasqual, seeded fifth, will play fourth-seeded Carlsbad today.
In 1-A action:
Coronado 6, Crawford 1--Coronado’s Shamen Dugger defeated Liz Mcdonald, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles to lead Coronado. Amy Coffman and Justine Lesch, and Magen Nagdi and Kelly Walker had straight-set doubles wins for Coronado.
