NEW YORK — Carmine (Junior) Persico, one of three alleged Mafia bosses on trial for running a murderous mob council called “The Commission,” was sentenced today to 39 years in prison in a separate racketeering case.
Persico, 53, reputed to be the head of the Colombo mob family, had faced life imprisonment on the charge. He and eight other alleged members of the mob were found guilty last June of extortion, narcotics, loan sharking and other racketeering charges.
