Santa Monica : Firm to Replicate Showroom

A Santa Monica Mercedes-Benz showroom that was destroyed by fire last April will be rebuilt using the exact design of the original 1922 building, company officials said at a ground-breaking ceremony Wednesday.
The $2-million reconstruction of the W. I. Simonson dealership will duplicate design details of the Spanish revival-style showroom, including hand-made tiles and hand-stenciled beams, according to spokeswoman Francie Rehwald.
The company expects to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year in the new showroom at 17th Street and Wilshire Boulevard, she said.
