Greek Culture Minister Melina Mercouri announced a $200-million plan to build a new museum complex for the Parthenon. Mercouri told an Athens press conference that the complex will be part of a bigger project to landscape the area around the Acropolis hill where the Parthenon stands. She said the present museum is too small to accommodate the pieces of sculpture excavated in the Acropolis area and the 10,000 daily visitors.
