College Roundup : UCSB Beats UCI, 8-7, in Water Polo

Terry Asplund and Jason Likins scored two goals each to lead UC Santa Barbara to an 8-7 victory over UC Irvine in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. water polo match at Heritage Park in Irvine Saturday.
The defeat cost UCI a share of the PCAA championship. Pepperdine won the conference title with an 11-1 record, followed by UCI (10-2) and Santa Barbara (9-3).
Sophomore Tom Warde led the Anteaters with three goals. UCI finished the season 17-11 overall.
The NCAA will announce its eight-team field for the NCAA water polo championships this afternoon. Cal State Long Beach will be the host school for next weekend’s NCAA championships in Belmont Plaza pool.
