Conservative newspaper publisher John McGoff pleaded not guilty to charges that he failed to register as an agent for South Africa. McGoff, 61, president of Global Communications Corp., made the plea at his arraignment before U.S. District Judge Charles R. Richey in Washington. McGoff’s attorney, Raymond G. Larroca, said he will seek a dismissal of the charges on the grounds that the statute of limitations had expired. McGoff, who owns one Michigan daily, recently sold his interest in suburban Detroit weeklies.
