Duarte : Hearing Set on Park Plans

The Duarte Parks and Recreation Commission will hold a public meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Community Center on proposed uses of an 11-acre parcel at Encanto Parkway and Royal Oaks Drive that will become Encanto Park.
The city is considering four types of parks ranging in cost from $800,000 to $1.2 million, to be financed by state grants, the city and the Redevelopment Agency. The city bought the land from the Army Corps of Engineers.
The most expensive type of park would be a sports center, with two baseball fields, a soccer field, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts, a fitness course, a recreation room and a botanical garden. Parking for 126 cars would be provided.
An “active” park would have lighted tennis courts and the same parking facilities. A “semi-active” park would have open turf for play, two unlighted tennis courts and parking for 94 cars.
A “passive” park would be mostly grass area suitable for picnicking and would have parking for 62 cars.
