U.S. Credibility Hurt by Sales, Mubarak Says

CAIRO, Egypt — President Hosni Mubarak said in an interview published today that U.S. arms sales to Iran have damaged the Reagan Administration’s credibility and could seriously harm the Middle East.
“I expect grave consequences in the Mideast because the disclosure of the arms deal has enabled countries unfriendly to the United States to actively work against her (interests) and double the dangers threatening the area,” Mubarak said in an interview with the semiofficial newspaper Al Ahram.
Mubarak said he sent a message to President Reagan, urging quick action to restore Washington’s credibility.
