A former UCLA assistant professor claims black faculty members at the campus are discriminated against. Halford Fairchild, former UCLA Afro-American Studies Department chairman, filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Labor alleging that since 1975, or before, “black faculty have suffered discriminatory termination, slower promotions and lower compensation.” The action seeks to block federal grants to UCLA. The former UCLA assistant professor of psychology was denied tenure and promotion to associate professor in June, 1985. A spokesman for UCLA declined comment.
