Bulgarian weightlifter Neum Shalamanov is seeking political asylum in Australia, the foreign ministry said.
Shalamanov, 19, disappeared after winning a record third World Cup title in Melbourne last Sunday. Authorities said they located him earlier, but would not give any details other than saying he is in the state of Victoria.
