Compton Pulls Away From Valley, 74-56

The Valley College men’s basketball team dropped its Southern California Conference opener,74-56, to Compton on Wednesday night at Valley.
The Monarchs (1-9, 0-1 in conference) trailed 38-34 at halftime, but Compton’s Lavert Simpson scored the first eight points of the second half as the Tartars pulled away for an easy win. Simpson finished with 15 points to lead Compton (7-2, 1-0). Compton center Andre Wiley scored 14 points and had 21 rebounds.
Sophomore guard Gary Goodrich led Valley with 15 points. Center Mike Hobbs had 11 points for the Monarchs.
