Fireworks Banned: The City Council gave final approval Thursday to a nearly total ban on fireworks within the city limits. The new ordinance prohibits sale and discharge of all fireworks except during events sponsored by the city. The action makes Los Alamitos the 11th city to prohibit fireworks in the county, City Manager Michael A. Graziano said. Graziano said a similar ban was discussed eight years ago but not enacted. Last summer, however, 61% of those responding to a questionnaire opposed continued sale and use of fireworks in the city, he said. Thursday’s council vote was unanimous.
