Foothill High School won its third straight San Clemente Kiwanis Tournament championship Saturday at San Clemente High School, making a game that should have been close look easy.
The Knights beat Long Beach Wilson in the final, 64-47.
Wilson was rated fifth in the CIF 5-A preseason rankings and entered the game with a 5-1 record. But the Bruins had trouble with Foothill’s press, and, when they did beat it, they couldn’t hit their shots.
Wilson made only 21 of 71 attempts (30%).
Foothill, which opened the season with losses to Capistrano Valley and Mater Dei, improved to 3-2. The Knights hit 50% (24 for 48) from the field.
Wilson made just 4 of 23 shots in the second quarter as Foothill opened a 35-24 halftime lead.
