The Region : AirCal Reports Anaheim Area Near Miss

An AirCal transport took evasive action and narrowly missed a small plane, passing under it by only 40 feet over the Disneyland area of Anaheim, according to an unofficial report to Federal Aviation Administration officials. Flight 342, an AirCal BAC 146 transport, was inbound to John Wayne Airport at 3,000 feet in the afternoon when its pilot/ saw the small Cessna 172 at the same altitude. AirCal officials reported their plane “lowered its nose and tightened the turn” after seeing the plane. An official report will be made this afternoon, a spokesman said. What action, if any, the smaller plane took was not reported. The incident was listed as occurring eight miles northwest of Santa Ana.
