JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — A father and son burned to death during the filming of a fire sequence in a wooden castle on the set of a science-fiction movie, police said Monday.
Killed in the accident Sunday were Martin Wenzel, 50, the film company’s transport manager, and his 19-year-old son, Conrad.
John Stodel, production supervisor for the film “Gor,” said the Wenzels were standing on part of the castle when it was set afire for a battle scene. The film, which involves a man from Earth who is transported to a planet called Gor, is being produced by a South African film company, Troll Productions Ltd. The castle set was built over an old mine tunnel outside Benoni, about 18 miles east of Johannesburg.
