A $2.5-billion Iranian arms smuggling conspiracy case against 17 American, Israeli and European businessmen was delayed for the third time when a federal judge in New York said that he wanted to wait for the appointment of a special counsel in the White House Iran- contras controversy. Judge Leonard Sand questioned whether continuation of the prosecution would be in the national interest and suggested that information that had not yet come out in the case might be useful to the special counsel.
