Dick Howser, who has undergone two brain operations in the last five months, said during a press conference in Kansas City that he can’t stand being away from baseball and expects to return in 1987 as manager of the Kansas City Royals.

“To be honest, if I feel I can’t make a trip, I won’t make it,” he said. “It’ll be Dick Howser’s decision. I don’t want to jeopardize my health. The importance (of managing) is there, but it’s not as strong as it used to be.”
