Nearly 1,500 Santa Monica residences lost electrical power Sunday evening after a palm frond fell onto a high-tension line near a Southern California Edison substation, a company spokeswoman said.
Spokeswoman Debbie Van Ness said all but about 75 homes had electricity restored within an hour. She said the outage affected an area generally bounded by San Vicente Boulevard, Colorado Avenue and 9th Street.
Santa Monica police were deployed to supervise traffic at several intersections where the stoplights failed.
