Iraqi President Saddam Hussein paid a short and unexpected visit to Saudi Arabia and held talks with King Fahd, Saudi state television reported. It showed the president, in military uniform, being greeted by the monarch, who was flanked by Crown Prince Abdullah, the defense minister, Prince Sultan ibn Abdulaziz, and senior government officials. The official Saudi Press Agency said the two leaders reviewed developments in the Iran-Iraq War and discussed the upcoming Islamic summit in Kuwait.
