Iraq said its warplanes raided Iran’s Kharg Island oil terminal for the third consecutive day. A communique issued in Baghdad said Iraqi warplanes also dealt a “destructive blow” to the main pumping station at Iran’s Gach Saran oil field, 80 miles northeast of Kharg. The communique said other air attacks were made against an Iranian air base and troop concentrations in several sectors, inflicting heavy losses. The Iranian national news agency IRNA reported nine civilians, including six children, killed when Iraqi planes bombed residential areas and a school in the westcentral town of Gachsaran.
