A hang-glider pilot from Redondo Beach was killed when he plummeted 200 feet into a tree at a popular hang-gliding area in the Angeles National Forest north of Sylmar. John Preston IV, 26, died at a nearby hospital. A Los Angeles Fire Department rescue team, including two helicopters, were sent to the rugged area about a mile north of Sayre Street and Shablow Avenue after Preston was spotted falling from his craft. Cause of the accident is under investigation.
