Roundup : Oliverez Has 44 as Cypress Wins on 3-Pointer

Andy Oliverez, a 6-foot 3-inch sophomore, scored a school-record 44 points, including the game-winning three-point shot with nine seconds left, to lead Cypress to a 74-73 victory over Navajo (Ariz.) Tuesday in a consolation semifinal of the Rotary National Shootout at Mesa College in Mesa, Ariz.
Oliverez, who won a game with a three-pointer in the final seconds for the second time in four days, made 16 of 20 shots, 8 of 9 free throws and 4 of 4 from three-point range.
Oliverez, averaging 16 points and 7 rebounds a game, also had 15 rebounds, and made 10 of 11 second-half shots.
Maurice Cunningham missed a 15-footer at the buzzer that would have given Navajo (9-4) the victory.
Cypress plays Johnson County (Kan.) in the consolation final at 2:30 p.m. today.
Saddleback 112, Tustin Marines 72--Renny Ingram scored 21 and Vincent Smalls added 15 as Saddleback (15-4) won a nonconference game. Robert Jefferson led Tustin Marines with 19.
