Newport Soccer Team Forfeits 2 Wins, Tie

Newport Harbor High School, which had gone undefeated in Sea View League boys’ soccer, agreed to forfeit two victories and a tie after school officials discovered that the team had been using an ineligible player.
Roger Leighton, Newport Harbor coach, said that junior Peter Duynstee, a reserve halfback, had played in five games even though he should have sat out a year after transferring from Mater Dei without moving into the Newport-Mesa School District.
Tom Jacobson, Newport Harbor principal and a member of the Southern Section Executive committee, said he mailed letters to the five schools and the Southern Section Wednesday advising them the games would be forfeited.
The Sailors forfeited league victories against Estancia and Tustin and a nonleague tie with Irvine. Duynstee had also played in losses to Santa Ana and Marina.
The Sailors are 3-2 in the Sea View League and 9-5-1 overall.
