A North Hollywood man was convicted Tuesday of bludgeoning his mother and stepfather to death in March, 1986.
The man, John Frederick La Rou, 55, was found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder in a non-jury trial before San Fernando Superior Court Judge Ronald S. W. Lew.
La Rou turned himself in to police March 23, telling officers that he thought he had killed his stepfather earlier in the day.
Police found the bodies of Sam Unger, 75, and Jeannette Unger, 73, in the apartment they shared with La Rou. Deputy Dist. Atty. Rosalie L. Morton said they were beaten to death with a large pair of pliers.
La Rou could receive a prison term of up to 32 years when he is sentenced March 3.
