A fire wrecked an empty Istanbul theater and killed a night watchman early Sunday. Police said the fire broke out following a performance of “Muzir Muzikal,” a controversial play criticizing the rise of Islamic fundamentalism in Turkey. Istanbul Gov. Nevzat Ayaz, quoted by the semiofficial Anatolian news agency, said, “The fire was started by an electricity short-circuit in the upper parts of the stage.”
