San Diego College Baseball : Lewis’ Grand Slam Leads SDSU Past Long Beach, 14-1

SAN DIEGO — Curt Lewis hit a pinch-hit grand slam and Nikco Riesgo went 4 for 4 with five runs batted in to lead San Diego State to a 14-1 victory over Cal State Long Beach in a nonconference game at Smith Field.
Lewis, a junior who was an All-American soccer player for the Aztecs, hit the grand slam in the six-run seventh inning. SDSU (4-1) broke the game open with six runs in the seventh and three in the eighth.
James Campbell (2-0) pitched six innings and struck out eight for the win. CSULB dropped to 2-5.
UC San Diego 10, United States International University 7--Brian Rude’s three-run home run capped a five-run fifth inning for UCSD (3-3) at USIU.
Eight home runs were hit in the game, four by each team. Rude, who was 3 for 5 with four RBIs, hit two home runs and USIU’s Steve Hendricks also hit two.
John Ronis was 3 for 5 with two RBIs for USIU (4-4), including a solo home run in the fifth inning. Kevin Robinson also hit a solo home run in the fifth.
David Adamson (1-1) was the winning pitcher and Mike Poteet (1-2) took the loss.
