Cook Pitches Canyons to 8-1 Victory

Freshman right-hander Jordan Cook struck out seven Saddleback batters and allowed four hits and one run in 6 innings as defending state champion College of the Canyons won its first game of the season, an 8-1 victory Thursday at home.
Canyons (1-1) scored all the runs it would need in the third inning. With two out and two on, third baseman Andy Cutchall doubled to the wall in left-center field, scoring Ted Weisfuss and Ray Palagyi.
Canyons picked up two more runs in the fifth when Vic Sotelo singled home Palagyi and later scored on an error by Saddleback second baseman Steve Miller.
Saddleback (2-2) scored with two outs in the seventh when first baseman Keith Hatch homered to right off Cook (1-0), formerly of Birmingham High.

CANYONS--Cook, Bowman (7), Craft (7) and Bible.
WP--Cook (1-0); LP--Feathers (1-1).
